Did you hear of the “Van Dogs” of Flint”? Here is a bit of the back story from someone who knows…
A minivan was found on the streets of Flint with 20, yep 20 dogs, police were called and a citizen that is involved in dog rescue. Unfortunately, that citizen made a huge mistake and started tossing kibble in the back of the van with 20 starving dogs, that resulted in 2 of the dogs being killed. More twists and turns before the dogs finally arrived at Genesee Animal Control. The staff and volunteers were saddened, outraged, overwhelmed, but mostly determined. Determined to get these dogs assessed, socialized, healthy, loved and placed in rescues where they can be properly placed in safe appropriate homes. They all were timid but embraced human affection. All gain confidence from another dog.
From what was gathered the owner of these dogs is from Flint but moved to northern Michigan temporarily and collected these dogs. It is thought that he answered every “free puppy or dog ad” he could find, several were clearly from the same litter. It is believed he was going to trade them or sell them for bait dogs.

We initially took two Milly and Astro both now placed and later added a third Tootsie who is still here. Tootsie is a male; he doesn’t mind his name. All gained confidence, love other dogs, and are learning that people can be amazing. Why? We believe we need to help where we can when we can. We believe they deserved an opportunity, and we believe our community that stands with us supports our cause. To each of you that support us, thank you for allowing us to literally impact and change lives. No dogs deserve these experiences, but united we can make a positive impact and move forward.
